Repeat Prescriptions

A doctor may agree for you to obtain your medication without always having to make an appointment. The easiest way to order your repeat prescriptions are:

• using your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS APP)
• Using the GP online system: SystmOnline

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the one you need. 

You can also:

• send a request through Patchs
• fill out a repeat prescription request form
• bring the paper form to surgery, Monday to Friday 08.00am to 6.30pm
• You can email your request to wyicb-wak.friarwoodscript-request@nhs.net don't forget to add your name and address to the email. 

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the telephone. 

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it. 

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from.  We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

• on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
• at your GP practice
• at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Medication Review

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review.

Reviews are usually done in your birthday month. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from.  Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

Always check your medication before leaving the pharmacy.  If you do not need it or are no longer taking it, hand it back before leaving. 

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

• coughs
• colds
• sore thrpats
• tummy troubles
• aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy with out a prescription.

Many pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

Our practice staff are able to refer you to a pharmacy for advise and treatment. The referral will allow you to have a timed conversation with the pharmacy either on the telephone or in person.  Ask our reception staff for more details.
