We now provide a small number of appointments especially for young people (13-19yrs) so they can either talk to or see a clinician to discuss any problems. Contact the surgery to ask when these appointments are available every week.

Care Quality Commission Inspection

The Friarwood Surgery was inspected by a CQC Team on Thursday 24th September 2015, we  received positive feedback from the inspection team on the day which has lead to our official report being published.

The good news is that we were awarded a rating of OUTSTANDING which is a wonderful achievement for all of our hard working and caring staff. This result puts your GP surgery in the top 4% best rated in England.

The surgery would like to thank the members of the Patient Participation Group for their positive engagement on the day of the inspection and for their ongoing support to help drive us forward on behalf of all of our patients.

PLEASE NOTE: Change to service

  • In line with a new NHS Patient Safety Program, the Doctors at Friarwood Surgery have agreed that the clinical risk associated with accepting repeat prescription requests over the telephone needs to be limited. The decision has been made to cease this service on 4th April 2016 and has been made entirely in the interest of patient safety.

    Why Are We Changing?

Our new systems will be safer for patients.

Some requests for medication over the phone are not clear and it can take considerable time and effort to clarify what is required.

Written requests avoid potential confusion and medication errors.

In addition to improving patient safety it will reduce the number of telephone calls to the practice which will improve telephone access for those in need of emergency help, advice or making an appointment.

calendar_penAppointments may be made by telephoning on (01977) 704777, by booking on line via our website (login details required) or alternatively by calling at the surgery.

Our aim is to offer an appointment on the day you call but some appointments are released up to four weeks in advance.

If you wish to see a specific GP please ask a receptionist but you may have to wait longer to see the GP of your choice.

Please ask a receptionist for a leaflet explaining how the appointment system works.

If you ring up for a GP appointment you may be offered a clinician call back from one of our nurse practitioners who will help with your clinical need.

There are also some telephone appointments available with GPs where this is appropriate.

If you cannot keep an appointment, please inform us as soon as possible as this will allow us to offer the appointment space to another patient.

PATIENT PARTNER PHONE SYSTEM (24hr pre-booking of appointments)

From Tuesday April 29th 2014 the surgery launched the Patient Partner automated phone system.

What is Patient Partner?

Patient Partner connects to our existing telephone system and clinical database and allows patients to book, cancel and check appointments using their telephone keypad. The system is available up to 24 hours a day and is designed to improve patient access, reduce DNA's (Did Not Attend’s) and relieve some of the pressure on our phone system at busy times such as 8am every morning.

How will it work?

When a patient calls the surgery number and they will hear a new option. If you choose to use Patient Partner you will be asked to enter your date of birth and telephone number using the telephone keypad. Your phone details must be up to date as this will be used to identify you on our clinical system and it will reject your log in if there are any differences.

When your information has been checked and accepted by the system you will then be offered options to book, cancel or check outstanding appointments. If you choose to book a new appointment the system finds a suitable appointment and offers it to you. The patient then presses a button on the keypad to confirm that this is suitable and we confirm that the appointment has been booked.

On-Line pre-booking of appointments

To compliment the Patient Partner system above we have also made our pre bookable available on line via your own secure login to our website. You just need to register your interest with the practice and we will send out to you a temporary password and details how to login for the first time. All you have to do then is change your password and you will be able to look on line 24hrs a day for availability of our pre bookable appointments and secure your choice without having to phone the practice.

Please note: We cannot put every appointment we have on the above 24hr systems as we need to have some available for patients who need to be seen on the same day. Please be aware that we also have the ANP triage system (see below) which is available to all patients who have an urgent same day clinical need  especially if/when all the pre bookable appointments have gone

 Clinical Call-Back

Since Monday June 10th 2013 the surgery have operated a clinical call back system which has aimed to deal with same day patient clinical request needs.

How does it work?

When all our same day appointments have been booked, reception staff will offer patients a telephone call back from a clinician who will assess the clinical need of the patient’s request. The clinician will offer help and guidance for any minor illness etc, but may also decide to offer a same day appointment with the Nurse Practitioner or the on call GP if the request is deemed clinically urgent.

The pilot has proved to be sucessful and now replaces the old extra’s system which traditionally had patients experiencing long waits to see GPs after their booked surgeries. Part of our evidence base of success is that our patient A/E attendances are down over 6% and our emergency attendances are down over 12% since July 13 (when compared with the previous year).

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation. Please request this at the time of booking or speak to your GP
